ACK is the abbreviation for acknowledgment; it is the name of a signal that passed between communicating processes, devices, or computers to signify acknowledgment of a message, that data has been received successfully.
ACK is also a short term the islanders use when referring to the island. It has become a popular symbol of Nantucket, even though the ACK is a code for Nantucket Municipal Airport, assigned by the Federal Aviation Administration (the letter N is reserved for Military airports).
